Allied Health students donation

Allied Health student clubs donate more than $1,800 to local nonprofit

In a surprise ceremony on Saturday, June 9, two Wenatchee Valley College Allied Health student clubs, Medical Assistant Student Knights (MASK) and Student Nurses of Wenatchee (SNOW), donated $1,821.48 to Wenatchee Adult Respite Day Care.

During the 2011-12 academic year, MASK and SNOW held multiple fundraisers and bake sales to raise money for both club activities and a deserving nonprofit organization. The groups decided to give portions of their fundraising efforts to a local charity as a way to give back to the community.

Wenatchee Adult Respite Day Care allows families a break from caretaking duties at home. Clients' families are allowed to take a loved one to the adult day care from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and know that their loved one is in a safe environment and will have opportunities to socialize and participate in activities. The Wenatchee Adult Respite Day Care center does not charge the client or family. They recommend a donation of $3 per hour, which is not required if a family is unable to pay.

The student clubs plan to make this an annual part of their programs. A new local organization will be chosen each year.
